BACK TO THE BASICS (yo gotti voice)

It’s crazy how much we return to our inner child. If you know me, or if you’ve just been around for a while, you know blogging has always held a space in my heart. I’m pretty sure it all started with MySpace; I loved the ability of curating your own space online. From MySpace, I took my newfound CSS skills and went over to spots like Wordpress and Blogger. From High School, up until like 2017ish I kept some type of online blog; my social media handle “So Laci Like” came from the name of my last blog (which is still live because I love to reminisce, lol). Something about having my own space online, where I can do whateverrrr I want has always been appealing to me. It almost feels like my version of a magazine. From story to design, It’s an open field. Over the last few years, I’ve been peeping a lot when it pertains to social media (and my relationship with it).

I could be here all day listing the things I’ve recognized.… but a few are important for this conversation. #1. Depending on social media to be the only way you stay connected with community is not it. On the rare occasion we see social media sites down, there’s always a conversation of “what would you do if your platform crashed and didn’t return?” how would people find you? #2. While short form content seems to be king, there’s people (like me) that crave more long form, intimate environments. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed most of my captions are at least two paragraphs long lol, I’m a yapper.  Last but certainly not least, #3. I’m not always trying to deal with an algorithm or made-up rules. While it’s always good to stay current on what’s happening trend wise, maybe I don’t want to record a GRWM for my art to be seen and my voice to be heard.

Which brings me to why we’re all gathered here today, I’m back in the blogging era.

Which brings me to why we’re all gathered here today, I’m back in the blogging era. *insert mixtape horns here*

As our good sis Solange said on When I Get Home “I can't be a singular expression of myself, there's too many parts, too many spaces, too many manifestations, too many lines, too many curves, too many troubles, too many journeys, too many mountains, too many rivers, so many.” I have future post in my sprit about those lyrics that I’ll write another day, but those lyrics really sum up how I feel about myself and my creativity. I’ve struggled over the last few years to TRULY embrace that. I spend too much time in one area because its comfortable, but at the same time get upset with myself about what I’m not doing. I tend to overthink (A LOT) and don’t really embrace the abundance of creativity within me.

One of my friends read my astrology chart a while ago (if you don’t like astrology, oops! I’m about to get nerdy) she explained to me that the south node placement in your chart is a description of you were in a past life. The sign in that placement probably represents an energy that helps you, but will hold a lot of energy that you probably should release. The sign in your north node (the opposite) is probably more of the energy you need to claim in your life and embrace. The sign in my south node is Virgo, and north node is Pisces.  While I love the Virgo’s in my life, y’all mf’ers are strict, lol! There’s a lot of places in my life where I’m too strict, I hold on too tightly, and everything must make logical sense and be in perfect order. Everything fits in its own special box.

I forced order on my art, when creativity is the best place for chaos to breathe.

I realized from that conversation that I’ve gotten strict with my own creativity. I somehow convinced myself that everything must be perfect. Everything must make perfect sense before it sees the light of day. I forced order on my art, when creativity is the best place for chaos to breathe. My mom is a Pisces, and one thing I admire about her is her ability to explore multiple avenues of creativity and multitask in a way I’ve never seen before (Rosemary uses ALL her hours). Growing up I saw her execute so many forms of creativity, ranging from painting to baking. She never chooses a singular piece of herself, she’s all things all the time.

I’ve realized that true perfection for me requires both energies, discipline and chaos. One helps the other, but neither can take over. Which makes everything my friend pointed out about the nodes make sense to me.

Now circling back to my main point (lol), I’m not just one thing, I go by the title of multi-disciplinary artist for a reason. I need different environments to express different things, so it was time for me to build one. It’s time to get back to my roots of unapologetic self-expression. It’s time to stop settling for certain parts of myself when I can experience and create more. I think of my creativity as a universe, I call it “So Laci Land” like Marvel, there’s all types of different worlds, overlapping storylines, etc. but it all fits under one umbrella. This form of expression is another world in the universe.

I’m really excited to get back into my blogging bag, it’s like having a fully customizable Tumblr with my own set of rules. If you’ve made it this far, thank you! I really appreciate you taking out the time to be here. I feel like this is the place where I should tell you what to expect moving forward, but I think I like the element of surprise lol. Just know, I’ll have something new at least once a month = )

Couple of housekeeping notes:

#1: I’m no writer, it’s probably all types of spelling errors and whatnot, my bad in advance.

#2: This is my safe space, keep it cute (y’all always do, but just in case)

Comment, like, subscribe, lol! Feel free to stay up to date and sign up for my newsletter below, I’m still figuring some things out, but

might start a substack. I obviously have a lot of shit to say, lol.

I also have a lil mood board page that I love and I feel like you would too find me where the vibes at

xoxo
